— WHAT IS LACTOMETER CALIBRATION —
Think of a quality lab that relies on a lactometer for daily measurements. If it has drifted even slightly from its true value, every reading becomes unreliable — leading to defective products, failed audits, or safety risks. Regular calibration is the only way to confirm your instrument is telling the truth.
Lactometer calibration means comparing its readings against a NABL-traceable certified reference standard at multiple test points, recording the deviations, adjusting where possible, and issuing an NABL certificate — accepted by ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and all quality auditors.
Compare readings against a NABL-traceable reference standard across the full measurement range.
Adjust or document deviations so your instrument reads within accepted tolerance.
Issue a NABL-accredited certificate (CC-2480) with full traceability documentation.
— INSTRUMENTS COVERED —
Quevenne / SG Scale / Digital / Combination · IS 1224 · FSSAI Accepted · NABL CC-2480
Glass lactometers for measuring the specific gravity of milk to check adulteration.
Digital lactometers with electronic display for quick and accurate milk testing.
Quevenne lactometers for measuring milk density on the Quevenne scale.
Zeal lactometers for rapid milk quality testing in dairies.
Gerber lactometers for standardized milk density measurement in fat testing.
Quick-test lactometers for rapid milk adulteration testing at collection points.
— OUR PROCESS —
Lactometer and reference density standards stabilised at 20 ± 0.1°C (or 60°F ± 0.2°F) in thermostatted bath for 30 minutes before measurement.
Lactometer inspected for stem damage, inclusions, scale legibility, and reference temperature mark. Any abnormality noted.
Lactometer immersed in reference density solution of certified specific gravity at reference temperature. Reading taken at the bottom of the meniscus. 3–5 readings per setpoint.
Lactometer indication compared to certified reference value at each calibrated point. Systematic error and standard deviation computed.
Expanded uncertainty (k=2) per GUM. Contributions: reference standard uncertainty, temperature stability (±0.1°C bath), meniscus reading resolution, and repeatability.
NABL CC-2480 certificate reporting scale reading, actual density, error, expanded uncertainty (k=2), reference temperature, and IS 1224 / ASTM E100 traceability.

Prism holds NABL CC-2480 under ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Lactometer certificates are accepted by FSSAI auditors, dairy cooperatives, state food laboratories, and ISO 9001 / ISO 22000 audit bodies across Gujarat.
— NON-NABL CALIBRATION —
For routine maintenance, bulk calibration, or internal QC checks where a full NABL certificate is not mandatory — Prism offers cost-effective non-NABL calibration using the same NABL-traceable reference standards and trained engineers.
All non-NABL work uses NABL-certified reference standards — readings are still reliable and defensible.
Without full NABL documentation, instruments return faster — ideal for urgent production schedules.
Non-NABL calibration costs less — practical for large batches or routine periodic checks.
Available at your facility or at our Vatva lab — same quality, more flexibility.
