What Is Thread Gauge Calibration & Why Does It Matter?

A worn thread ring gauge will accept threads that are actually oversized — leading to failed assemblies and costly rework. Thread gauge calibration verifies the actual pitch diameter against NPL-traceable thread masters and confirms the GO/NO-GO bands are within ISO 1502 tolerance.

Intake & Tagging

Thread gauge received, tagged, thread designation and pitch confirmed, condition documented.

Visual & Thread Check

Thread form visually inspected — flank damage, burrs, rust or wear noted as as-found condition.

Pitch Diameter Measurement

Pitch diameter measured using NPL-traceable thread wires and precision measuring instruments per ISO 1502.

GO/NO-GO Verification

GO gauge must pass through a compliant thread; NO-GO gauge must not. Calibration verifies gauge itself meets ISO 1502 tolerance.

As-Left Verification

All measurements re-confirmed. Any out-of-tolerance findings flagged. Pass/fail status determined and recorded.

NABL Certificate
